Chicago | On the street

Chicago was the first stop on our road trip across the USA (north to south). Being the 3rd largest city in the US I was definitely excited by the thoughts of shooting on the street here. The interesting (and slightly strange) thing was it was actually really difficult to photograph in the street as it felt nearly everyone noticed that I had a camera and was taking pictures (normally this isn’t really the case). People would actually duck and weave around the camera and someone even yelled abuse at me! We only saw another photographer shooting pictures on the street over 4 days and for a city of nearly 3 million people, I was expecting much more than that. Having said that we did meet so many friendly locals and  I definitely want to go back with more time and really explore the amazing light here. I captured a lot of audio from around the city as well and will put that, together with some more pictures, in a video for the whole Chicago experience over the coming months. For now, enjoy some pictures!

Vancouver goes crazy for Canucks on Granville

Having never watched a real ice hockey game before in my life, seeing game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals where Vancouver played Boston was a once in a lifetime experience for this little aussie guy! We headed down to a bar 2 hours before the game started to find a seat and get ready to enjoy the game, the lines to get in to most places were ridiculous! The Canucks ended up winning the game 3-2 in overtime and Granville st erupted into this wild party… I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life! For as many blocks as you could walk up and down the street it was completely full with fans cheering, shouting, high fives everywhere – the energy was intense and so positive! It truly is amazing how a game can bring a whole city together into the street to party and I felt so lucky to be involved in such an amazing evening. How do you try and convey the energy of all of these people shouting and running wild on the street? I’m not entirely sure, but here is around 20 pictures to give you a good idea of how wild it gets. If you ever get a chance to be in Vancouver for a similar hockey game you HAVE to do be part of it!

Chicago {portraits}

The first stop in the tour of our North to South road trip of the USA was Chicago. We (Dale and I) ended up staying a night longer than originally planned because this city was so amazing. If you haven’t been, definitely check this place out! Here are some portraits of some of the interesting people we met and photographed. We’re in St. Louis at the moment and leaving towards Memphis today. There are more pictures to come from the street + music, but here are the faces of Chicago. Enjoy.
