4×5 Portrait – Todd Hunter Mcgaw

I’ve been shooting a lot of portraits recently with this ridiculously cumbersome 4×5 large format camera. The film is 10×12.5 cm in size and you can only take one picture at a time. It’s really really slow, but incredibly enjoyable to use. There’s something so nice about slowing down, to the point where it may take anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour just to make a single frame.

Well, here is one of the portraits – Todd.

You probably already know of the man, the mystery, the Todd Hunter Mcgaw (but if you don’t, you should click that link).

Stranger doesn’t mean strange

Remember that portrait project I’ve been working on the last couple of years? If you follow the blog you may have seen portraits from Sydney, Canberra & Brisbane. Well, the body of work has come together for an exhibition during the Head On Photo Festival.

The show is on next week at the Gaffa Gallery in Sydney. The opening is on Thursday the 3rd of May at 6pm and I’d love to see you there!

Included in the exhibition is 5 small cards with simple challenges to help initiate an experience with someone you don’t know. There is only a limited amount of the cards made so pop into the exhibition between the 3rd and 16th of May to get yourself a copy!

I’ve also made a facebook page for the project and I’d love you to contribute. Share your experiences with interacting with ‘strangers’ and let us know how the challenges go!

Andy – First portrait with 5D Mark III

Yesterday was a pretty awesome day. Lunch with a good friend, dinner involved bacon (man I love bacon), wine and a home made crumble. Oh and I  picked up a brand new 5D Mark III. I haven’t really had a good chance to test it out yet – but here is one of the first frames off the camera. Introducing Andy. Shot in 5 minutes while taking a break from editing.

For the camera nerds out there: 5D Mk III, natural light, 85L, f/1.8, ISO 640, 1/160 sec.

A Portrait of Singapore

Earlier this year I headed over to Singapore for a week and shot 8 rolls of film. It was the first time for me to travel overseas and shoot ONLY film. Having just got the shots back today from the lab, I’m very happy with the results! Here is a taste of this intriguing place. For those interested it was all shot on my Zeiss Ikon with the 35 f/2. They are some of my favourite shots ever… what do you think? Can you dig it? Can’t wait to share the rest of the series with y’all!
